Bulldog in end of 1800 Rococo clothes. The term "bulldog" was first used around 1500 in England, homeland of this breed. Bulldogs were used for bull baiting in the 17th Century. Because of this practice, the breed maintains a reputation of being ferocious, despite its friendly and playful nature. The bulldog is the symbol of Britain and is popular as the mascot of universities, military institutions, and other organizations. |
