| About the painting - by Daniela Ria:
King Charles Spaniel in 1600 Spanish dress. The breed originated in Great Britain during the Renaissance as a pet dog for royalty, although in that era the breed was more similar to the modern Cavalier King Charles Spaniel than contemporary English Toys. Today's appearance is due to crosses between long-snouted toy spaniels and short-snouted breeds such as the Pug or Japanese Chin in the 18th and 19th centuries. |
