Daniela Ria is well known for her
portraits of dogs and cats in human poses and for her unique gallery of
characters of noble dogs and elegant cats. Enhancing their unique characteristics,
she interprets animal faces like respectable diplomats, gracious damsels,
solemn generals, elegant duchesses, boastful ambassadors, fine countesses,
fat merchants, delicate ladies, distinguished gentlemen, and magnificent
leaders. Painted against eighteenth-century velvets, we see the gentle countenance
of a Siberian Husky damsel or the majestic dignity of a Labrador Retriever
in high uniform. A precious series of dog races with triumphant or stoic
faces reveals a unique and witty sensibility.

From a photo she catches an expression, a proud glance, a peculiar pose,
and then transforms the subject into a true character, interpreting the
personality of these animals and providing them with emotions and intelligence.
There are scenes and attire from different historical periods, from medieval
times to the nineteenth century and early 20th centuries. Daniela Ria builds
her portraits based on historical research, using clothing and adornments
of the past. She surrounds the images with elegant light effects, picturesque
landscapes or interior backdrops such as plush draperies, stately libraries,
and other effects. The portraits are created using tempera paint on wood.
